Shim Book

Side work, levelled in thin wedges

Level the week with a thin hour limit

A written maximum is a shim. Without it, extra jobs sit proud of rest and sleep.

Piling more work on an uneven week hides the gap. It does not close it.

One thin wedge

  1. Write a weekly maximum you can keep when the day job is heavy.
  2. Leave one evening without side work.
  3. When a new request would pass the line, offer a later date.

A thin limit is easier to keep than a hope that next week will be calmer.
